Waggin' Tails Obedience Program

Skills Tests

Your dog must be able to pass each of these tests to move up to the next level. We test periodically during each level and you don't have to pass the whole test all at once. We will keep track of the skills you have passed and what you still need to work on and will make sure you know what you need to practice.

Level 1 - "Getting Started" - Relationship Building, Basic Skills, and FUN!

  • Sit, Down, Stand - with verbal and/or hand signal, no lure, intermittent rewards
  • Sit and Down stay - for 5 seconds
  • Name response - 2 out of 3 times
  • Come and sit - on leash

Level 2 - "Understanding the Basics" - Confidence in Skills and FUN!

  • Sit stay - for 30 seconds with mild distractions
  • Down stay - for 30 seconds with mild distractions
  • Stand stay - for 5 seconds with mild distractions
  • Come and sit - on leash, from distractions
  • Walking with a loose leash - for 30 feet past distractions
  • Handle - ears, feet, tail

Level 3 - "Strengthening the Basics" - Distractions and FUN!

  • Sit stay - for 1 minute with moderate distractions
  • Down stay - for 1 minute with moderate distractions
  • Stand stay - for 15 seconds with moderate distractions
  • Come and sit - off leash, past distractions
  • Heel - for 30 feet past other dogs
  • Sit and Down - from 10 feet away
  • 2 Silly pet tricks - with verbal or hand signal, no lure, intermittent rewards

Level 4 - "Polishing the Basics" - Off leash, Distance, and FUN!

  • Sit stay - for 2 minutes, 10 feet away, with heavy distractions
  • Down stay - for 5 minutes, 10 feet away, with heavy distractions
  • Stand stay - for 30 seconds, 10 feet away, while being petted
  • Come and sit - off leash, anything goes!
  • Heel - off leash, for 30 feet past distractions and dogs
  • 5 Silly pet tricks - with verbal or hand signal, no lure, intermittent rewards
  • CGC test - all 10 parts - this is NOT an official CGC evaluation
